Operation UNITE : Unlawful Narcotics Investigation Treatment and Education
Project Cease Fire Task Force
Project Cease Fire is a program implemented under the Department of Justice’s Project Safe Neighborhoods Initiative, a nationwide commitment to reduce gun crime and make our communities safer.
Under the Project Cease Fire initiative, local, state and federal law enforcement agencies and prosecutors share information and review criminal cases involving guns. Qualified cases are then prosecuted in federal court under existing statutes that can result in significantly longer sentences without possibility of parole. There are no second chances under this program.
Recognizing that detectives place their lives in danger conducting undercover investigations, Operation UNITE has partnered with this initiative in order to support tougher sentences for those using guns in drug-related cases.
The Project Cease Fire initiative currently involves Pulaski, Rockcastle and Lincoln counties in UNITE’s service region.
As part of their commitment to reducing gun violence, prosecutors and police will make presentations in local schools.
