Upward
Upward is an evangelistic sports ministry program designed for kindergarten through sixth grade boys and girls that promotes salvation, character and self-esteem in every child. Each child in a league is expected to memorize Bible verses and all players receive equal playing time regardless of their skill level.
In addition to basketball, Upward offers cheerleading and soccer programs. Upward is a parachurch organization which currently partners with churches in over 40 denominations to share the Gospel with children and their families.
Children are seeing the examples of today’s “role models” in sports, and the messages conveyed are often ones of violence and disrespect. Upward seeks to promote salvation, character and self-esteem in every person. Emphasis is placed on Christlikeness and good sportsmanship. Through Upward, the church utilizes sports as a tool to create common ground between community members. While playing together, the normal barriers that inhibit ministry are minimized which allows common ground to come about.
