2007 Activities
Thursday, December 4 - The Whitley County Juvenile Drug Court held a graduation ceremony and Christmas party for participants. The group went to a local nursing home to sing Christmas Carols.
Thursday, November 15 - UNITE Deputy Law Enforcement Director Paul Hays spoke with the UNITE Club members at Corbin High School.
Thursday, October 18 - A concert by the Christian-rock band Live Fish and presentation by Joe Farmer of First Priority was at the Whitley County Middle School.
Saturday, September 29 - A free Hooked on Fishing, Not On Drugs youth fishing tournament was held at Larry Gambrel's Pond in the Avalon Subdivision. Approximately 25 youth participated. Gus Clouse, with Grace on the Hill Church in Corbin, was the lead instructor and Lee Schroeder brought children from the south part of the county. Tuesday, September 25 - The Whitley County Juvenile Drug Court held a graduation ceremony at the Jefferies Center.
Monday-Tuesday, September 24-25 - A Hooked On Fishing, Not On Drugs program was held at Grace On The Hill United Methodist Church, 1632 Cumberland Falls Highway, Corbin. A fishing tournament for those in the class was held on Saturday, September 29. For information contact Gus Clouse at 606-528-6840 or midyouth@graceonthehill.org.
Monday, September 10 - Operation UNITE participated in a health fair at the Firestone plant in Williamsburg.
Thursday, September 6 - A Corn Hole Tournament was held at the IM Gym at University of the Cumberlands.
Tuesday, September 4 - A miniature golf tournament was held at the Hal Rogers Waterpark in Williamsburg. A $50 gift card was given to top male and top female winners. Event is sponsored by the University of the Cumberlands UNITE Coalition.
Tuesday, July 31 - UNITE provided a professional development for middle and high school teachers in the Williamsburg Independent School System on drugs and their effects.
Thursday, June 21 - Operation UNITE will participate in the annual health fair for Ayrshire Electronics employees in Williamsburg from 11:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. For information contact Debra Gadd at 606-549-7810 or dgadd@ayrshireusa.com.
Thursday, June 21 -- UNITE Executive Director Karen Engle spoke to the Corbin Rotary Club at noon at David's Steakhouse.
Saturday, May 19 - An anti-drug sit-in was conducted on the front lawn of the Williamsburg Independent School in Whitley County. UNITE Clubs from Williamsburg Elementary, Middle and High Schools held a peaceful protest against drugs as an effort to make their community aware of their stand against illegal narcotics. Friday, April 20 - A presentation on community coalition building was given to participants in Leadership Tri-County's Communications Day at the Laurel County Courthouse community room.
Thursday, March 29 - Whitley County Juvenile Drug Court held a graduation ceremony.
Thursday, March 29 - A general overview of UNITE was presented to members of the Williamsburg Kiwanis Club at the Cumberland Inn.
Monday, March 12 - Former UK basketball star Jeff Sheppard gave an anti-drug presentation to students at Corbin South Intermediate.
Friday, March 9 - Williamsburg High School UNITE Club lock-in at the Williamsburg High School gym.
Wednesday, March 7 - Former UK basketball star Jeff Sheppard gave anti-drug presentations to students at Whitley North Elementary and Whitley County Day Treatment schools. For pictures from Whitley North click here.
Friday, February 23 - A meth video presentation and discussion was conducted for UNITE Club members at Whitley North Elementary.
Saturday, February 17 - University of the Cumberland UNITE Coalition held a free pizza party following the basketball game versus Georgetown with former UK basketball star Jeff Sheppard.
Saturday, February 10 - A presentation on UNITE, drugs in the community and how churches can become involved was presented to approximately 40 people at the Greater Life Fellowship on American Greeting Road in Corbin.

Saturday, October 28 - Second annual Howl-A-Day event at Rescue Ridge. UNITE coalition members handed out information about drug treatment options and other aspects of Operation UNITE. For more information click here.
Monday-Friday, October 23-27 - Whitley County High School celebration of Red Ribbon Week. Activities included: Monday - decorate with red ribbons. Tuesday - wear shirts inside out ("Turn the truth inside out, don't do drugs!"). Wednesday - Ice cream for UNITE. Thursday - pass out pretzels ("Don't be twisted, don't do drugs!"). Friday - wear red clothing with prizes for clothes and poster contests.
Monday-Friday, October 23-27 - Whitley County Middle School UNITE Club celebration of Red Ribbon Week. Activities included: Monday - distribute ribbons to students and staff for themselves and their vehicles and door decorating contest. Tuesday - Hand out pretzels during lunch ("Don't be twisted, don't do drugs!") and educational video. Wednesday - release red balloons, discuss drug issues, and educational video. Thursday - slogan posters due, sign banner and ribbons. Friday - pizza party for club members who participated in events and door winners at Mr. Gatti's; area winners receive pizza and movie.
Saturday, September 16 - Whayne Supply Company "Ride Against Drugs" and CAT racecar appearance at Perry County Park. Motorcycle ride-in departed from London Shopping Center on KY 192. For details click here. To view pictures click here.
Friday, September 15 - An informational booth was set up at Firestone Industrial Products in Williamsburg for employees and their families.
Friday, September 8 - The University of the Cumberlands hosted Operation UNITE's first "Our Future - Your Choice" education conference and awards luncheon. For details click here.
Thursday-Saturday, September 7-9 - A coalition information booth was set up during Whitley County's Old Fashiooned Trading Days in Williamsburg..
Friday, September 1 - Whitley County Middle School UNITE Club meeting to hold officer elections. Club members are collecting stuffed animals that can be presented to police officers in Whitley County and given as a comfort item whenever a child is involved with arrests, accidents or other traumatic events. Tuesday, August 29 - Coalition sponsored the graduation banquet for the Whitley County Juvenile Drug Court graduates. Chair Darla Crawford and Co-Chair Angie Bowling were on hand to congratulate the 10 graduates - the largest ever for Whitley County - as well as answer questions on how UNITE can better serve them in the future.
Monday, August 28 - Jeff Sheppard presents an anti-drug rally at Williamsburg Independent School.

Monday, July 17 - Second annual Wipeout Drugs in Williamsburg Bash at the Kentucky Splash Waterpark. Event sponsored by the City of Williamsburg, Williamsburg Police Department, Whitley County Board of Education, Whitley County District Court, Hal Rogers Entertainment Center, and Whitley County UNITED Coalition.
Thursday, June 15 – Regional Shoot Hoops Not Drugs Basketball Camp with Jeff Sheppard, 4 p.m. at Whitley County High School. For details click here.

Monday, May 1 – UNITE coalition networking reception at The Center for Rural Development in Somerset, Pulaski County, for Lake Cumberland coalitions. One of five regional receptions.
Monday, March 6 – Approximately 50 people attended a coalition recruitment dinner held at the Mary Jeffery Center in Williamsburg.
Friday, April 28 – Whitley County UNITE pie supper held at Boston Elementary.
Saturday, April 15 – Members of the Whitley/McCreary Circuit Drug Court participated in a PRIDE cleanup at Noe’s Dock in Whitley County.
Monday, April 3 – Neighbors UNITED and Court Watch training at the Williamsburg Catholic Church.
February 14-15 -- The Rachel’s Challenge character development program was presented to 2,800 students at Whitley County Middle and High Schools, and an evening community presentation. Five coalition members were involved in this project, which had a significantly positive impact on students’ attitudes and their relationships with other students.
