Recent Activities
    2007 Activities

  • Thursday, November 1 - The second year of Celebrate Recovery in Wayne County began with a large group training and workshop at the ASPIRE Center (KY 90 and KY 1275 behind Krogers). Open Share groups and Step Studies for people with hurts, habits and hangups will be held. The groups continue each Thursday evening.

  • Saturday, October 6 - A Celebrate Recovery reunion was held at the Steubenville Baptist Church. All people who participated in any portion of the first year Celebrate Recovery group programs were invited for a time of fun, food and fellowship.

  • Saturday, September 22 - DAAD was a participant in the Healthy Family Day at the ASPIRE Center. Coalition members distributed information about UNITE initiatives and local support groups and provide anti-drug educational materials. Lots of fun and games and free food. T-shirts were provided to the first 400 kids. This "Put Play In Your Day" activity was sponsored by the Clinton County YMCA.

  • Friday, July 27 - Wayne County Back to School Bash, sponsored by Defensive Action Against Drugs, was held at the Aspire Center in Monticello. Free food, school supplies, swimming, inflatable games, food and more. For information contact Georgia Burton at 606-348-8453.

  • Tuesday, July 10 - A free Neighbors United training was conducted at the Rectors Flat Baptist Church. This was the third training to be held in Wayne County this year. Citizens learned how to form an effective community network to oppose illegal activities. For more information contact Ray Vater at 606-340-0121 or mjvater@peoplepc.com.

  • Saturday, June 2 - Third annual Kids Fishing Derby at Cave Lake Event Park.

  • Tuesday, May 22 - A free Neighbors United training was conducted at the Clay Hill Baptist Church on Highway 776. This was the second training to be held in Wayne County this year. Citizens learedn how to form an effective community network to oppose illegal activities. Sheriff Charles Boston and County Judge-Executive Greg Ranking attended in support of this program.

  • Friday, May 18 - Defensive Action Against Drugs was a contributing sponsor for Project Graduation at Wayne County High School. Students gathered at Briar Bowl Lanes in Somerset where they participate in many fun activities and games and bowled all night long. Free food including pizza and soft drinks.

  • Tuesday, January 30 - Neighbors UNITED training for the Eadsville and Parmley Grove communities in Wayne County were conducted at the Parmley Grove Baptist Church on Route 789 in Monticello.

  • Friday, December 1 - Wayne County and Monticello UNITE Clubs entered a float in the annual Christmas Parade with the theme: "All I want for Christmas is a drug-free community."

  • Thursday, November 16 - Regular meeting of the Defensive Action Against Drugs coalition.

  • Monday, November 13 - Former UK basketball star Jeff Sheppard visited with students from the Wayne County Alternative School and Wayne County High School then joined the ROTC for Thanksgiving dinner. To view pictures click here.

  • Sunday, November 12 - An informational meeting about the Celebrate Recovery program was held at the ASPIRE Center. For information contact Ray Vater at 606-340-9936 or 606-340-0121 or mjvater@peoplepc.com.

  • Tuesday, October 31 - Safe Night Out at the ASPIRE Center in Monticello. Free treats and information about local organizations.

  • Monday-Friday, October 23-27 - Family Resource and Youth Service Centers for the Wayne County and Monticello Independent school systems conducted Red Ribbon Week activities.

  • Wednesday-Saturday, August 16-19 - Three coalition members traveled to Lake Forest, California, to receive basic training in the Celebrate Recovery faith-based support group training initiated by Saddleback Church. The coalition hopes to begin this proven and successful support group in Wayne County.

  • Friday, July 28 – Back-to-School Bash at the ASPIRE Center. For details click here.

  • Monday, June 19 – Community Health Fair featuring educational materials about substance abuse and support group activities, Wayne County High School.

  • June – Regional Shoot Hoops Not Drugs Basketball Camps with Jeff Sheppard. For details click here.

  • Saturday, June 3 – Kid’s Fishing Derby at Cave lake Park on the Nick Cooley Farm. The event was attended by approximately 175 people. For details click here.

  • Friday, May 5 – Child Plus Fair at the ASPIRE Center.

  • Monday, May 1 – UNITE coalition networking reception at The Center for Rural Development in Somerset, Pulaski County, for Lake Cumberland coalitions. One of five regional receptions.
