UNITE Activities
Operation UNITE coalition volunteers and students from across the Fifth Congressional District were honored Friday, November 9, 2007, for outstanding efforts during the past year. More than 800 people attended the program, held at the East Kentucky Expo Center in Pikeville.

A Neighbors UNITED group was formed for the Murl, Stop and Cabell communities on July 19, 2007. Co-chairs of this organization are Barney Denney - 606-348-6629 (h) or 606-307-4100 (c) - and Pattie Tate - 606-348-0367 (h), 606-307-8502 (c), 606-348-1277 (w) or ptate@ebank.ky.
Wayne County has completed its first year of Celebrate Recovery, a faith-based support program. Approximately 25 people were part of this new program. A kick-off for the second year was held November 1, 2007. The group meets every Thursday at 6:30 p.m. at the ASPIRE Center (KY 90 and KY 1275 behind Krogers). After a combined general meeting of praise, a short devotional, prayer requests and prayer, separate support groups for men and women meet to help people with "hurts, habits and hang-ups."
The coalition has a strong youth focus and participates in community educational opportunities. Promotional materials and T-shirts with an anti-drug message have been distributed at local events. The coalition has assisted Wayne County and Monticello Independent schools with Red Ribbon Week (October) activities.
Wayne County has three registered UNITE Clubs – Monticello High, Wayne County High and Wayne County Middle.
UNITE Clubs designed a billboard during December 2006 to send the community a holiday message to remain drug-free during the season. They also designed, built and manned a float for the annual Christmas Parade with the theme: "All I want for Christmas is a drug-free community."
Saturday-Sunday, May 10-11 - Teens UNITE of Wayne County will conduct "Gifts For Grandma" from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. each day. Students have identified several grandparents who are caring for their grandchildren due to the parents being absent from the homes and will deliver flowers to them for Mother's Day. Recent Activities
Thursday, April 24 - A free Internet safety training for parents was held at at the ASPIRE Center in Wayne County. Vital information was presented by the Kentucky State Police's Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force and the U.S. Attorney's Office for Child Safety. Friday-Saturday, April 18-19 - "Rockin' for Reasons" battle of the bands competition at Wayne County High School gym. Sponsored by Wayne County Teens UNITE Club. For information visit www.myspace.com/wchsteensunite.

2007 Activities
Thursday, November 1 - The second year of Celebrate Recovery in Wayne County began with a large group training and workshop at the ASPIRE Center (KY 90 and KY 1275 behind Krogers). Open Share groups and Step Studies for people with hurts, habits and hangups will be held. The groups continue each Thursday evening.
Saturday, October 6 - A Celebrate Recovery reunion was held at the Steubenville Baptist Church. All people who participated in any portion of the first year Celebrate Recovery group programs were invited for a time of fun, food and fellowship.
Saturday, September 22 - DAAD was a participant in the Healthy Family Day at the ASPIRE Center. Coalition members distributed information about UNITE initiatives and local support groups and provide anti-drug educational materials. Lots of fun and games and free food. T-shirts were provided to the first 400 kids. This "Put Play In Your Day" activity was sponsored by the Clinton County YMCA.
