2007 Activities
Wednesday, October 24 - A cooperative investigation between Operation UNITE and the Morehead Police Department resulted in arrest warrants for 27 people, most dealing with the production of methamphetamine in Rowan County. To read story click here.
Friday, September 14 - A methamphetamine awareness and Neighbors UNITED training was held at the Carl Perkins Center in Morehead. For details click here.
Tuesday, July 17 - Operation UNITE conduct Methamphetamine Awareness training programs at the Morehead State University Police building. A program for local police and fire departments took place in the morning and for the MSU campus staff during the afternoon.
July - The Rowan County Drug Court celebrated two first. Angela Buckler became the first Drug Court participant to earn a GED and Sancha Markwell was the first participant to give birth to a baby while in the program. Circuit Judge Bill Mains presides over the court along with Karen Gulley, regional supervisor with the Administrative Office of the Courts, and Brian Bradshaw, Rowan Drug Court supervisor. Monday, May 21 - The coalition purchased "fatal vision" goggles in order for students, the community and other interested persons to have an opportunity to learn about alcohol and other substance abuse issues. For information contact Cindy Kerns at 606-356-0087.
Monday, May 14 - All 700 students at Rowan County Middle School participated in a Round Robin Drug Prevention Program. Students had a wonderful learning experience by participating in the interactive games provided.
Friday, May 4 - All parents of students at Rowan County High School received a letter and brochure on the responsibility of parents regarding alcohol, substances and parties. This was a joint project with Champions, KY-ASAP, Morehead Police Department, Rowan County Attorney, and Xerox.
Friday, May 4 - A Drug Endangered Children (DEC) Network training class was held the Carl Perkins Center in Morehead for coalitions in UNITE’s Gateway service region. The training provided details on how to deal with issues related to children who come from homes where drugs are present.
Thursday, April 26 - The Rowan County Drug Court set up an informational booth at the St. Claire Medical Center health Fair in Morehead to help make the community aware of the Drug Court program.
Monday, April 23 - Former University of Kentucky basketball star Jeff Sheppard gave anti-drug presentations at Lakeside Christian Academy and Rowan County Christian Academy.
Monday, February 26 - Former University of Kentucky basketball star Jeff Sheppard gave three anti-drug presentations to students at Rowan County Middle School and one at Clearfield Elementary.

Tuesday, January 30 - Approximately 56 people attended a program on methamphetamine and its effects on children.
Monday, January 8 - Former UK basketball star Jeff Sheppard gave an anti-drug program at Rowan County Alternative School.
2006 Events
Friday, November 17 - A presentation on UNITE was given during the Rural Strategies for Kentucky Family Literacy Programs at Morehead State University.
Wednesday, September 20 - A pain management symposium was held with 46 people in attendance. A primary goal was to educate healthcare professionals on the KASPER system.
Saturday, July 29 - Free Shoot Hoops Not Drugs regional basketball camp with Jeff Sheppard at Morehead State University. Camp was attended by 114 participants from 10 Kentucky counties plus one from Ohio. To view photos click here.
Saturday, May 20 – Car wash fundraiser for the Education/Youth Committee. For details click here.
Saturday, April 29 – Living Free facilitator training followed by a youth rally at the Carl D. Perkins Community Center in Morehead sponsored by Rowan County UNITE, Rowan County Ministerial Association and Lifeline of East Kentucky. Event involved approximately 65 people.
Tuesday, April 25 – UNITE coalition networking reception at the Old Government Building in West Liberty for the Gateway coalitions. One of five regional receptions.
Thursday, April 20 – An Empowered Community Exchange presentation featuring Congressman Hal Rogers Morehead Conference Center in conjunction with the New Cities Initiative. To view pictures click here.
Thursday, March 2 - An educational session for the medical community was held. The program provided a forum for a discussion of treatments for persons with drug addiction. Approximately 48 people attended.
