UNITE Activities
  • The Rowan coalition has been working hard to educate the people of Rowan County about the drug problem. They have utilized their website, printed brochures and distributed fliers in churches. The project is on-going. For information call Margaret Mouch at 606-783-6516.

  • In May the coalition began a project to educate senior citizens about the danger of prescription drugs. This project is on-going. For information call Annabella Moore at 606-783-6516.

  • Morehead State’s AOD Task Force continues to use the e-toke program as an on-line resource. For information contact Judy Krug at 606-783-2125.

  • The campus coalition sent six people to the APPL conference. Those attending discussed a plan to approach the drug issue on campus. Student athletes use this plan and the education gained from the conference will assist in educating high school students across the county about the dangers of drug use. At least 500 people (athletes and faculty) completed an on-line survey about substance abuse.

  • Two Rowan County schools have a registered UNITE Club – Clearfield Elementary and Rowan County Middle.

  • Rowan County will be part of the Drug Endangered Child Training Network.

  • Friday, May 16 - Operation UNITE will conduct a presentation on prescription drugs and the elderly for senior citizens between 4:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. at the Carl Perkins Center, Highway 32 Connector, Morehead.   • Friday, May 23 - A community methamphetamine training program will be held from 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. at the Carl D. Perkins Center on Crayton-Jackson Lane in Morehead. Recent Activities
  • Saturday, December 22 - Rowan County Adult Drug Court held their first graduation ceremony for two participants in the county courthouse in Morehead. Approximately 100 people attended. Speakers included Kentucky Supreme Justice Justice Will T. Scott and state Rep. Rocky Adkins.

  • Monday-Friday, October 29-November 2 - Approximately 700 Rowan County Middle School students received information about the dangers of substance abuse, ways to avoid getting involved with drugs, and how to get help if they need it during Red Ribbon Week activities sponsored by the coalition.   • Wednesday, October 24 - A cooperative investigation between Operation UNITE and the Morehead Police Department resulted in arrest warrants for 27 people, most dealing with the production of methamphetamine in Rowan County. To read story click here.

  • Friday, September 14 - A methamphetamine awareness and Neighbors UNITED training was held at the Carl Perkins Center in Morehead. For details click here.

  • Tuesday, July 17 - Operation UNITE conduct Methamphetamine Awareness training programs at the Morehead State University Police building. A program for local police and fire departments took place in the morning and for the MSU campus staff during the afternoon.

  • July - The Rowan County Drug Court celebrated two first. Angela Buckler became the first Drug Court participant to earn a GED and Sancha Markwell was the first participant to give birth to a baby while in the program. Circuit Judge Bill Mains presides over the court along with Karen Gulley, regional supervisor with the Administrative Office of the Courts, and Brian Bradshaw, Rowan Drug Court supervisor.   • Monday, May 21 - The coalition purchased "fatal vision" goggles in order for students, the community and other interested persons to have an opportunity to learn about alcohol and other substance abuse issues. For information contact Cindy Kerns at 606-356-0087.

  • Monday, May 14 - All 700 students at Rowan County Middle School participated in a Round Robin Drug Prevention Program. Students had a wonderful learning experience by participating in the interactive games provided.

  • Friday, May 4 - All parents of students at Rowan County High School received a letter and brochure on the responsibility of parents regarding alcohol, substances and parties. This was a joint project with Champions, KY-ASAP, Morehead Police Department, Rowan County Attorney, and Xerox.

  • Friday, May 4 - A Drug Endangered Children (DEC) Network training class was held the Carl Perkins Center in Morehead for coalitions in UNITE’s Gateway service region. The training provided details on how to deal with issues related to children who come from homes where drugs are present.
