UNITE Activities
Operation UNITE coalition volunteers and students from across the Fifth Congressional District were honored Friday, November 9, 2007, for outstanding efforts during the past year. More than 800 people attended the program, held at the East Kentucky Expo Center in Pikeville.

Hazard Community and Technical College has established drug education and information centers on each of its four campuses. These centers provide information about support groups, drugs, treatment options and Operation UNITE. Training materials are available to students, faculty and staff in the HCTC library. Currently hundreds of people have benefitted from the materials.

Perry County’s UNITE Coalition has focused their support on working closely with those in recovery through Lifeline and the Perry Drug Court. The coalition provided Drug Court participants a food basket containing all the ingredients for a Christmas Dinner. Drug Court participants have provided 1,050 hours of community service with the PRIDE organization.
Currently four Perry County schools have a registered UNITE Club – Buckhorn High, Perry County Central High Robinson Elementary and Roy G. Eversole Elementary.
The Perry County Central UNITE Club has been very involved with anti-drug activities and sent a large number of students to be trained for the Hooked On Fishing-Not On Drugs® program. To view pictures from a fall 2006 fishing trip click here.
Perry County has five Lifeline groups: Concerned Persons at Airport Gardens Baptist Church and Combs United Methodist Church; and Drug and Alcohol Recovery at CommonBond Christian Fellowship, Combs United Methodist Church and Airport Gardens Baptist Church.
Thursday, April 3 - A presentation on methamphetamine will be given to juniors and seniors in the Career Options class at Buckhorn High School from noon to 1:30 p.m. (This was rescheduled from March 14.) For details contact David Wheeler at 606-348-7176.

Friday, December 14 - The Perry County Adult Drug Court held a Christmas dinner for all their clients and families. Gifts were provided for children by the Hazard Lions Club.
Thursday, November 15 - The Perry County UNITE Coalition held a Volunteer Recruitment Dinner at the Hal Rogers Forum. For more details click here.
Wednesday, October 31 - Hazard Community and Technical College held two special events - a department door decoration contest and a Drug Free Survivor Challenge. For details click here.
Tuesday, August 28 - Perry County Drug Court held a standing-room-only graduation ceremony for eight participants at the Perry County Justice Center Circuit Courtroom. Guest speaker was Congressman Hal Rogers.
Monday, August 6 - An informational program about the dangers of substance abuse was conducted for elementary students at Robinson Elementary School.
Wednesday, July 25 - A methamphetamine awareness class was presented to approximately 15 membersw of the Kentucky River Health Department at the Rural Law Enforcement Technology Center in Hazard.
Friday, June 1 - A 3-on-3 Dare To Be Drug Free Basketball tournament featuring University of Kentucky basketball player J.P. Blevins was held at the John C. Combs Gymnasium. To view photos click here.
Tuesday, May 8 - Operation UNITE had a display and presented a workshop on "The Effects of Drugs on the Community" at the EKCEPT Economic Summit at the First Federal Center on the campus of Hazard Community College.
Saturday, March 31 - Perry County UNITE Drug Court participants assisted in the annual Buckhorn Lake clean-up and was responsible for collecting 402 bags of garbate..

Friday, March 30 - Appriximately 70 members of the HOFNOD Club at Perry County High participated in an aquatic education program in Frankfort.
Thursday, March 29 - The Perry County UNITE Drug Court held a graduation program for two participants in the Perry County Justice Center.

Tuesday, November 28 - More than 50 people attended a free health fair was held on the Hazard Community and Technical College Hazard Campus. Students and faculty had an opportunity to access health information and assessments of cholesterol, blood sugar and body fat index, as well as drug education information.

Monday, November 13 - A presentation on "How to Keep Your Kids off of Drugs" was presented at Willard Elementary School.
