Menifee County received a $5,000 allocation for projects during both the first quarter and second quarter of 2006. Most of the money will be used to support youth activities with part of the funds to help the coalition become incorporated.
Two drug-free movie nights are planned for the community during the summer. Parents will be educated through speakers, pamphlets and brochures. These movie nights will provide a drug-free atmosphere for families, especially those unable to go on a vacation.
Thursday, June 28 - UNITE Shoot Hoops Not Drugs basketball camp featuring former UK basketball star Jeff Sheppard, 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Menifee County High School gym in Frenchburg. This event is free of charge and open to all school-aged children. Every child will receive a free basketball and T-shirt and be eligible to win 1 of 2 portable basketball goals to be given away upon conclusion of the program. Hot dogs and drinks provided. Recent Activities
Friday, May 4 - A Drug Endangered Children (DEC) Network training class was held the Carl Perkins Center in Morehead for coalitions in UNITE’s Gateway service region. The training provided details on how to deal with issues related to children who come from homes where drugs are present.
Monday, February 12 - Former University of Kentucky basketball star Jeff Sheppard gave anti-drug presentations to students at Botts Elementary, Menifee Elementary, Menifee Alternative School, Menifee Middle School and Menifee County High School.
Monday, October 30 - Approximately 1,000 adults and children attended the second "Back Street Halloween Bash" featuring the theme "Say Boo To Drugs." Assistance was provided by the sheriff's office, fire and ambulance services, as well as city and county governments. Age-appropriate prevention materials and T-shirts with a prevention message were distributed. Last year the event drew approximately 800 people. To view pictures click here.
