UNITE Activities
  • Middle school students are being asked to create designs for an anti-drug billboard to be posted by May 2008.

  • The coalition is currently working to develop Court Watch. During 2007 a safe working area for volunteers to work and store equipment was obtained.

  • MHSThe Magoffin County Health Department was recently awarded a $100,000 Kentucky Drug Free Community grant from the Office of National Drug Control Policy. The funding will be used to further anti-drug efforts in the county.

  • Magoffin County is part of the Drug Endangered Child Training Network. The coalition has been working on first responder training and protcol development.

  • Friday, May 30 - The Magoffin County Drug Court will hold a graduation ceremony at 11:30 a.m. in the Magoffin County Justice Center in Salyersville.

  • Wednesdays - REACH Support Group meetings, 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. For details click here.

  • Monday, April 14 - Operation UNITE participated in a town hall meeting to help prevent underage drinking at the Teen Scene in Salyersville. Refreshments were served For details contact Drug-Free Communities Coordinator Carolyn Isaac at 606-349-5483 or carolyn.issac@ky.gov.

  • 2007 Activities
  • November-December - Approximately 150 youth participated in drug and alcohol-free events.

  • Thursday, December 13 - The Magoffin County Drug Court participants and their families joined the Knott County participants for a Christmas party at the Sportsplex in Hindman.

  • Wednesday, November 28 - The Magoffin County Juvenile Drug Court held a graduation ceremony at the Magoffin County Teen Scene.

  • Friday, September 28 - Knott and Magoffin Drug Court held a graduation ceremony at the Knott Judicial Center.

  • Friday, July 13 - "Kids Night Out" program at Ramey Park pool wponsored by Salyersville Neighbors UNITED. All children 16 and under were invited to a free pool party at the park in Salyersville.   • Saturday, May 19 - The Knott and Magoffin Drug Court held a family day out program at Carr Fork Lake. Events included basketball, fishing, horseshoes and food.

  • Tuedsay, April 3 - Magoffin County Drug Court held their first graduation ceremony for two participants at the Magoffin County Justice Center. The community came together and created a very festive atmosphere for their first graduation. Justice Scott and UNITE Deputy Law Enforcement Director Paul Hays were the guest speakers.

  • Tuesday, January 30 - A free training for volunteers wishing to create UNITE's Court Watch program was conducted at the Teen Scene in Salyersville. For more information about Court Watch click here.

  • Wednesday, January 24 - An adult Drug Court graduation ceremony was conducted for two Knott County participants and one Magoffin County participantat the Knott County Judicial Center.

  • 2006 Activities

  • Monday, October 30 - Magoffin County Juvenile Drug Court graduated one participant in a ceremony held at Teen Scene, located on Route 7 at the entrance to Magoffin County High School.

  • Sunday, October 29 - A Red Ribbon Poker Run was conducted by the Salyersville Neighbors UNITED. For details click here.

  • Friday, October 27 - Red Ribbon Week drug-free parade and march at the Magoffin County High School. For details click here.

  • Tuesday, October 17 - Knott/Magoffin Drug Court Judge Kim Childers conducted graduation ceremonies for five participants - one from Magoffin County and four from Knott County - at the Knott Judicial Center. Guest speakers included Will T. Scott, deputy chief justice of the Kentucky Supreme Court, and Paul Hays, deputy law enforcement director for UNITE. There have been 22 graduates from this Drug Court, and five participants have given birth to drug-free babies.
