UNITE Activities
  • Currently the coalition is attempting to build membership and strengthen name recognition.

  • Currently seven Leslie County schools have a registered UNITE Club – Big Creek Elementary, Hayes Lewis Elementary, Hyden Elementary, Leslie County High, Leslie County Middle, Stinnett Elementary and W.B. Muncy Elementary.

  • Leslie County Drug Court participants did community service work for the local food pantry in Hyden during Christmas.

  • Leslie County will be part of the Drug Endangered Child Training Network.

  • Monday, May 19 - The Clay-Leslie-Jackson Drug Court will hold a graduation ceremony at 6 p.m. in the Clay County Justice Center in Manchester.


Recent Activities
  • Sunday, December 2 - Third annual Clay/Jackson/Leslie Drug Court versus the WYMT News All-Stars fundraising basketball gamewas held at the Hyden Elementary School gym beside Mary Breckinridge Hospital in Leslie County. The event raised $550 for St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. For details call Dana at 606-672-2437, Vicki at 606-596-0278, or Karen at 606-813-6797.

  • Tuesday, November 27 - A free Neighbors UNITED informational program was conducted at Hyden City Hall. Participants learned how neighborhoods can work together in order to become a Concerned, Caring and Committed community. This extension of the Neighborhood Watch program has proven effective in reestablishing pride, opening communications between families, providing safety for children, and keeping drugs and other crime out of the area.

  • Friday, November 16 - A drug awareness program was presented to students in grades 3-6 at Stinnett Elementary School. For information contact Vicki Wooton at 606-374-3641.

  • Thursday, November 15 - A free Court Watch informational and training was held at the Hyden City Hall. In a peaceable and non-threatening manner, Court Watch volunteers monitor, track, record and report, without bias, all aspects of local drug and drug-related cases from arrest through sentencing or dismissal.

  • Monday, November 12 - The Clay/Jackson/Leslie Adult Drug Court program held a graduation ceremony for 13 participants.

  • Wednesday, October 10 - A Hooked On Fishing-Not On Drugs (HOFNOD) training was conducted at Hyden City Hall. HOFNOD is the flagship education program of the national Future Fisherman Foundation. This year-round program is widely used in more than 30 states to foster angling skills, conservation ethics and social skills.

  • Sunday, October 7 - An anti-drug march and rally was held for all Leslie County residents to become part of the solution and take back their communities from drugs. Approximately 400 citizens began marching with signs and banners from the new parking structure on Maple Street in downtown Hyden and ended with a rally in front of the Leslie County Courthouse. Speakers included former addicts Josh Huffman and Steve Collett, with special singing by Danielle Morgan from WYMT. A proclamation was signed by the mayor, county judge-executive and state representative. For photos click here.

  • Friday, October 5 - Police conducted a roundup of suspected drug dealers. For story click here. For mug shots click here.

  • Tuesday, July 10 - A Cinema In The Park program was conducted for the community.

  • Monday-Tuesday, July 9-10 - A youth faith-based rally was held for adults and youth (middle and high school) in Hyden. For information contact Teresa Dixon at 606-672-2901, ext. 2307.

  • Friday, June 1 - The Clay-Leslie-Jackson Drug Court participated in the Relay for Life.

  • Tuesday, May 29 - More than a dozen participants in the Clay-Leslie-Jackson Drug Court program graduated in a ceremony at the Clay County Justice Center. Lt. Governor Steve Pence was the featured speaker.

  • Thursday, May 17 - Leslie County Drug Court participants assisted with the PRIDE Clean-up.

  • Thursday, May 17 - An informal meeting to discuss bringing treatment into Leslie County was held at the Kudzu Corner Cafe near the courthouse in Hyden. For information contact Rhonda Brashear at 487-3487.

  • Friday, May 4 - Clay-Leslie-Jackson Drug Court played a basketball game against the Clay-Jackson-Leslie sheriff departments at the Clay County Middle School. The game raised $1,700 which went to benefit the St. Jude Children's Research.

  • Tuesday, April 17 - Leslie County Drug Court participants helped with the PRIDE clean-up.

  • Monday, December 11 - Former UK basketball star Jeff Sheppard presented an anti-drug message at Leslie High, Leslie Middle, and Hyden Elementary.

  • Monday, February 19 - Drug Abuse Counsil met and elected new officers.

  • Monday, November 13 - Graduation ceremonies for the Clay-Jackson-Leslie Adult Circuit Drug Court programat the Clay County Courthouse. Guest speaker was Kentucky Secretary of State Trey Grayson. There were 2 graduates from Jackson, 2 from Leslie and 10 from Clay.

  • Monday, November 13 - Former UK basketball star Jeff Sheppard presented anti-drug presentations to students at Leslie County Middle, Leslie County High, Stinnett Elementary, Hyden Elementary, W.B. Muncy Elementary, and Hayes Lewis Elementary schools.
