UNITE Activities
Lee County has two schools with a registered UNITE Club for the 2009-10 school year - Lee County High and Southside Elementary.
Approximately 750 people were affected by six projects conducted by the coalition during the first half of 2009. Events included a July 4 youth concert with "Live Fish," a post-prom program, theater program, grandparents raising grandchildren program, and support for Lee County Youth Sports' flag football and soccer during the summer.
Hooked On Fishing-Not On Drugs programs were conducted each Tuesday and Thursday throughout June 2009. A fishing tournament was held, with an awards banquet on July 2.
Approximately 15 Drug Court participants were participating in a landscape painting class in early 2009 through a grant received in February from the Appalachian Regional Commission.
Lee County participated in a youth soccer program in conjunction with the U.S. Soccer Foundation and UNITE in Wolfe, Owsley and Breathitt counties. The coalition continues to sponsor conditioning sessions for 15 youth signed up to play during the 2009 season.

Karate Class - One group meets 6 p.m. each Tuesday and a second group meets 6 p.m. each Thursday at the PEP Coalition Office, 70 Locust Street, Beattyville. Dance Day - Starting at 5 p.m. each Wednesday there is an hour of hip-hop tumbling for children. A second hour-long program begins at 6 p.m. A half-hour line dancing program for adults begins at 7 p.m. For information contact Terry Tipton at 606-464-0494 or pepcoalition@bellsouth.net.

Monday, July 20 - Indictment warrants have been issued for 16 people following a investigation into illegal drug activity in Lee County.

Saturday, July 4 - Live at Happy Top, an outdoor concert featuring James Overbee, Life Fish, Hearts of Saints and Sons of Thunder was held. The show was followed by the "Fire In The Sky" fireworks display.
