UNITE Activities
  • The Lee/Owsley Drug Court program participants raised money to sponsor a needy child for Christmas 2006. During December four participants did a total of 200 hours of community service for the Owsley County Fiscal Court and three participants totaled 100 hours of community service for the Lee County Fiscal Court. Participants have started ain "Inspiration Book" that will be distributed throughout the counties to bring positive recognition to the program.

  • The City of Beattyville was recently awarded a $96,962 Kentucky Drug Free Community grant from the Office of National Drug Control Policy. The funding will be used to further local anti-drug efforts.

  • Two Lee County schools had registered UNITE Clubs during the 2006-07 school year -- Beattyville Elementary and Southside Elementary.

  • Lee County is participating in a youth soccer program in conjunction with the U.S. Soccer Foundation and UNITE in Wolfe, Owsley and Breathitt counties.

  • Lee County will be part of the Drug Endangered Child Training Network.

  • Group Guitar Lessons - Group meets 5 p.m. each Thursday at the PEP Coalition Office, 70 Locust Street, Beattyville. For information contact Terry Tipton at 606-464-0494 or pepcoalition@bellsouth.net.

  • Cooper Clayton Smoking Cessation Class - One group meets 4:30 p.m. each Tuesday and a second group meets 6 p.m. each Thursday at the PEP Coalition Office, 70 Locust Street, Beattyville. For information contact Terry Tipton at 606-464-0494 or pepcoalition@bellsouth.net.

  • Friday, December 21 - A free PEP/UNITE Bowling Tournament for youth in the Lee County school system was held at the new bowling lanes in the Lee County Recreational Center on Highway 11 North. For information contact Josh Neiderman at 606-464-0494 or pepcoalition2@bellsouth.net.

  • Tuesday, December 11 - The Lee County PEP Coalition held a recruitment dinner at Lee County High School. Former University of Kentucky basketball star Jeff Sheppard was among the speakers.

  • Wednesday, October 31 - A "Trick or Treat on Main Street" program was hosted by the Lee County PEP Coalition. Treats, games and fun for the whole family in downtown Beattyville by the Wolly Worm Barn.

  • Thursday, October 11 - The Lexington Children's Theater performed the popular play "The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe" at the Lee County High School auditorium.

  • Saturday, September 22 - A writers workshop was held at Lee County High School.

  • Saturday, September 8 - A free Christian concert featuring the Robbie Seay Band, Brandon Heath and Live Fish was held at the Kiwanis Park Amphitheater at Happy Top in Beattyville. For details click here. To view photos click here.
