The coalition is working to support Point of Hope treatment and after-care programs by providing resource materials and assisting with transportation for participants.
Friday, May 16 - The Lawrence County UNITE coalition will hold a recruitment dinner, 6:30 p.m. at the Lawrence County Community Center. Speakers are UNITE Education Director Debbie Trusty and Lawrence County Sheriff Garrett Roberts. A discussion will be held on working together as community partners to effect social change. Thursday, August 30 - Indictment warrants for individuals selling Morphine, OxyContin and Hydrocodone in and around Lawrence County were served during an Operation UNITE drug roundup conducted Thursday, August 30. The roundup was held in conjunction with a press conference featuring Congressman Hal Rogers, Kentucky Office of Drug Control Policy Executive Director Bill Patrick, Kentucky Inspector General Steven Davis, Sheriff Garret Roberts, and resident Carla Preston. Carla and Guy Preston's 18-year-old daughter, Sara, died due to a drug overdose in January 2006. For stories click here. For photos click here.
Thursday, July 12 - UNITE Shoot Hoops Not Drugs basketball camp featuring former UK basketball star Jeff Sheppard was at the Lawrence County High School gym in Louisa. Every child will received a free basketball and T-shirt and was eligible to win 1 of 2 portable basketball goals given away upon conclusion of the program. For more details click here.
Saturday, June 16 - A 3-on-3 basketball tournament to benefit the Lawrence County UNITE Coalition was held at the Fallsburg Community Center. For details click here.
Friday, May 4 - A Drug Endangered Children (DEC) Network training class was held the Carl Perkins Center in Morehead for coalitions in UNITE’s Gateway service region. The training provided details on how to deal with issues related to children who come from homes where drugs are present.
Thursday, March 1 - Approximately 60 people attended the Lawrence County coalition recruitment dinner. For details of the program click here.
