The Laurel County Coalition helped fund an archary program at East Bernstadt Elementary School in the spring of 2008. They have continued financial support for the program and include messages about anti-drug choices and positive reinforcement to several hundred participants.
For the second year the coalition put together a 2008 calendar featuring anti-drug poster contest winners from Laurel County elementary school UNITE Clubs as a fundraising project.
Operation UNITE coalition volunteers and students from across the Fifth Congressional District were honored Friday, November 9, 2007, for outstanding efforts during the past year. More than 800 people attended the program, held at the East Kentucky Expo Center in Pikeville.

Laurel County UNITE has become very active in a weekly Backpack Club, providing food and anti-drug messages to approximately 1,400 homes each weekend.
Much of the coalition’s efforts are targeted toward educating the community about drug abuse and underage drinking.
Laurel County has four schools with registered UNITE Clubs for the 2009-10 school year – East Bernstadt Elementary, East Bernstadt Middle, North Laurel Middle and South Laurel High.
Laurel County has three weekly Lifeline groups: a Drug and Alcohol Recovery group and two Concerned Persons groups.
There are two weekly Celebrate Recovery programs, one at Hawk Creek Baptist Church and one at Crossroads Baptist Church. This program helps people deal with the issue of drug abuse or any other problem they are encountering.
Tuesday, May 18 - Two classes on methamphetamine awareness will be presented to Jackson Energy linemen and engineers that work outside. The first class is 8 a.m. at the London office (Route 290 and KY 30) and the second class is 2 p.m. at the McKee training building on KY 30 East. Tuesday, December 8 - UNITE presented a drug-free workplace training to supervisors and managers of the Highlands in London. For details contact Colleen at 606-878-1856.
Tuesday, December 1 - The London-Laurel County UNITE Coalition held a dinner for approximately 150 children that have been affected by drug abuse, their care-givers, and members of the community who strive to make a difference. The program included a presentation on positive choices, reinforcing the anti-drug message and how one person can make a difference. Saturday, October 17 - UNITE presented a methamphetamine awareness class to EMTs and paramedics. For information contact John Pennington at 606-598-2987.
Thursday, September 24 - A five-week "How To Drug-Proof Your Kids" program began at Sacred Heart Church Hall in Corbin. This Focus on the Family program continued each Thursday through October 22.
