  • Saturday, January 19 - A presentation on methamphetamine was given to the Upward Bound program at Union College.

  • Tuesday, January 8 - Approximately 68 people attended the coalition recruitment dinner.

  • 2007 Activities
  • Thursday, December 6 - The Knox County Adult Drug Court held a graduation ceremony for 10 participants in the Knox District Courtroom.

  • Saturday, November 17 - Former UK basketball star Jeff Sheppard gave a drug awareness presentation to youth from Candleridge Baptist Church and Gray Baptist Church at the Gray Baptist Church Family Life Center.   • Tuesday, October 30 - Approximately 1,200 people participated in the Community Fright Night activities. Omega Force utilized feats of strength to communicate positive anti-drug messages to children as well as adults in the community. Mr. WIlkes deslivered powerful and life-changing messages of hope and inspiration.

  • Monday, October 22 - The Knox and Bell County UNITE coalitions hosted a UNITE Golf Scramble at Pine Mountain State Resort Park, followed by a Hooked On Fishing-Not On Drugs event. For details click here.

  • Friday, October 19 - "Plant the Promise to be Drug Free" event on the courthouse square in Barbourville. In recognition of Red Ribbon Week, all schools, businesses, civic groups, families and youth were invited to plant a red tulip to symbolize home and serve as a reminder to youth to stay away from drugs. Bulbs will bloom in April during National Alcohol Awareness Month.

  • Tuesday, October 9 - Street Heat, a band consisting of law enforcement officers, correctional officers and firefighters, performed to 1,500 middle and high school students to kick-off Red Ribbon Week activities. These volunteers used music to reach kids with messages about resisting drugs, avoiding violence, dealing with peer pressure, and believing in themselves.

  • Wednesday-Friday, September 26-28 - A Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder Trainer of Trainers program was held at the Knox County Library in Barbourville by Cumberland River KIDS NOW. For more information click here.

  • Tuesday, September 25 - A training for UNITE Club sponsors was conducted by the Knox County UNITE Coalition.

  • Monday-Tuesday, September 24-25 - A Hooked On Fishing, Not On Drugs (HOFNOD) program was held at Grace On The Hill United Methodist Church in Corbin.

  • Saturday, September 22 - A presentation on the requirements to become a Certified Alcohol and Drug Counselor was given to graduate students at Union College by UNITE Treatment Director Clinton Hammack.

  • Saturday, September 15 - First Tee golf program.

  • Thursday, September 13 - UNITE "Celebrating Success" Summer Fest 5K Run/1 Mile Walk, 7 p.m., on the Court Square in Barbourville. For details click here. For photos click here.

  • Tuesday, September 11 - The Knox/Laurel Juvenile Drug Court program held a graduation ceremony at the Laurel County Courthouse.

  • Saturday, September 8 - The Bell and Knox County UNITE Coalitions partnered for the First Tee Drug Prevention program. Approximately 50 youth and 10 adults participated in this event, held at the Wasioto Winds Golf Course in Pineville.

  • Thursday, August 2 - A presentation on chemical dependancy was made to staff at Union College in Knox County.

  • Thursday, July 12 - Knox County Summer Fest 2007 and "Cruizin Barbourville Nights" car show on the court square in Barbourville.

  • Thursday, June 21 -- UNITE Executive Director Karen Engle spoke to the Corbin Rotary Club at noon at David's Steakhouse.

  • Saturday, May 26 - Knox County Hooked On Fishing-Not On Drugs program.

  • Friday, May 25 - Knox County Drug Court held a picnic for participants at Walker Park.

  • Monday, May 21 - The Knox County Juvenile Drug Court held graduation ceremonies for one participant in the District Courtroom.

  • Saturday, May 19 - Knox County Hooked On Fishing-Not On Drugs program.

  • Saturday, May 12 - Knox County Hooked On Fishing-Not On Drugs program.

  • Friday, May 11 - Knox County Drug Court staff, team and participants took part in the Relay for Life walk held at the Barbourville Water Park.

  • Tuesday, May 8 -- Operation UNITE set up a display at the Community Collaboration for Children Regional Network's Community Networking Day at Union College. Also participating were members of the Knox County Drug Court staff.

  • Saturday, May 5 - Knox County Hooked On Fishing-Not On Drugs program.

  • Saturday, April 28 - An organizational meeting was held for the Hooked On Fishing-Not On Drugs program in Knox County.

  • Saturday, April 21 - Buddy Bass Fishing Tournament at Grove Marina. The tournament had 125 entries. A day camp for children had 55 participants. More than 70 businesses and organizations collaborated to make the tournament a success.

  • Friday, April 20 - A cookout and rules meeting for the Buddy Bass Fishing Tournament was conducted at Dave & Rex's Outdoor World in Corbin.

  • Friday, April 20 - A presentation on community coalition building was given to participants in Leadership Tri-County's Communications Day at the Laurel County Courthouse community room.

  • Tuesday, April 3 - Knox County UNITE Coalition meeting in the District Courtroom.

  • Wednesday, March 7 -- Knox County Juvenile Drug Court held a graduation ceremony for one participant in the Knox County District Courtroom in Barbourville. A reception followed.

  • Tuesday, March 6 - Knox County UNITE Coalition meeting in the District Courtroom.

  • Saturday, March 3 - Former UK basketball star Jeff Sheppard participated in the Knox County Basketball League program.

  • Monday, March 12 - Former UK basketball star Jeff Sheppard will give an anti-drug presentation to students at Corbin South Intermediate at 1 p.m. For information contact Gary Perkins at 859-302-2431.

  • Monday, February 22 - A panel discussion on "Faith in the Public Arena" was held at the Black Technology Center at Union College in Barbourville.

  • Saturday, February 10 - A presentation on UNITE, drugs in the community and how churches can become involved was presented to approximately 40 people at the Greater Life Fellowship on American Greeting Road in Corbin.

  • Tuesday, February 6 - Knox County UNITE Coalition meeting. Daniel Lewis spoke on experiences with substance abuse.

  • Monday, February 5 - A Neighbors UNITED training was held at the Artemus Volunteer Fire Department.

  • Monday, January 22 - Former UK basketball star Jeff Sheppard gave two anti-drug presentations at the Knox County Technology Trade School and a presentation at Barbourville Independent School.

  • Saturday, January 13 - A coaches and referee meeting was held in the new Barbourville gym prior to the start of the 8-week basketball, cheerleading and dance team youth league.

  • Thursday, January 4 - Knox County District Drug Court held a graduation ceremony for 6 participants in the Knox County Court House.

  • Saturday, December 16 - Coalition distributed flyers for basketball/cheerleading/dance team registration at Knox Central Old and New Gym. Evaluation of students for basketball team placement conducted in the new gym.

  • Friday, December 15 - Coalition members wentChristmas caroling and concluded with a potluck dinner.

  • Wednesday, December 13 - Coalition members made a presentation about UNITE at the Jellico Church of God Mountain Assembly.

  • Saturday, December 9 - Coalition distributed flyers for basketball/cheerleading/dance team registration at Knox Central Old and New Gym.

  • Saturday, September 16 - Whayne Supply Company "Ride Against Drugs" and CAT racecar appearance at Perry County Park.

  • Saturday, September 9 - UNITE at the Brickyards Car and Motorcycle Show.

  • Monday, August 28 - Jeff Sheppard presents an anti-drug rally at West Knox Elementary School.

  • Thursday, August 10 - Knox Juvenile Drug Court graduates 1 participant.

  • Thursday, August 10 - Food and fun at the Barbourville Water Park.

  • Monday, August 7 - Back-to-School Expo at Lay Elementary School with appearance by former University of Kentucky basketball star Jeff Sheppard.

  • Wednesday, August 2 - Barbourville Redifest.

  • Tuesday, August 1 - Coalition meeting at the Knox District Courtroom. Anti-drug poster contest winners were recognized. The project affected approximately 400 people and let the community know that UNITE is more than arresting drug abusers, but involves an educational component.

  • Monday-Friday, July 31-August 4 - A Prevention Camp Week was conducted at Kay Jay. There were approximately 200 people who benefitted from this event. To view pictures click here.

  • Saturday, July 29 - Kids Day at Kay Jay.

  • June – Regional Shoot Hoops Not Drugs Basketball Camps with Jeff Sheppard. For details click here.

  • Tuesday, June 6 -- A candlelight service was conducted at the courthouse. To view pictures click here.

  • Saturday, May 27 - HOFNOD fishing event.

  • Saturday, May 20 - HOFNOD fishing event at Larry Gambrel's Pond, Avalon Estates in Corbin.

  • Friday, May 19 – Knox District Drug Court is participated in the Relay For Life at the Barbourville Recreational Park.

  • Monday-Friday, May 15-26 - All school classrooms were encouraged to participate in an anti-drug poster and mascot contest. First, second and third places were given. For details click here.

  • Saturday, May 13 - HOFNOD event at Larry Gambrel's Pond, Avalon Estates, Corbin.

  • Sunday, May 7 – Knox Juvenile Drug Court participates in the March of Dimes Walk America at Levi Jackson State Park (Laurel County) as part of Drug Court Month.

  • Saturday, April 22 – Inaugural Knox County Buddy Bass fishing tournament at Grove Marina on Laurel River Lake in support of the HOFNOD program. To view story click here. To view pictures click here.

  • Monday, April 18 – UNITE coalition networking reception at the Manchester Baptist Church, Clay County, for the Cumberland Valley coalitions. One of five regional receptions.

  • Saturday, March 25 – The UNITE faith-based basketball and cheerleading league held an awards ceremony and banquet at the Barbourville High School gym with special guest Jeff Sheppard. More than 250 people participated in the leagues, along with approximately 50 coalition members.

  • March – Approximately 100 members of the medical community became more familiar with the KASPER system following two coalition-sponsored training sessions conducted by the Medical Advisory Committee.
