    2008 Activities

  • Friday, September 28 - Knott and Magoffin Drug Court held a graduation ceremony at the Knott Judicial Center.

  • Friday, September 21 - A community collaborative planning meeting for the 2007 KDAC Christmas event was held at the district courtroom of the Knott County Judicial Center in Hindman. Organization that conduct a toy drive or related "free to the public" Christmas activity discussed the possibility of combine efforts into one large event to better serve the community without duplicating efforts.   • Tuesday, September 4 - Former University of Kentucky basketball star Jeff Sheppard presented an anti-drug presentation at the Cabin Creek Children's Home.

  • Thursday, July 5 - UNITE Shoot Hoops Not Drugs basketball camp featuring former UK basketball star Jeff Sheppard was held at the old Knott County High School gym in Hindman. Every child received a free basketball and T-shirt. For more details click here.

  • July - First responders from the KSP Post 13 area gathered in the Perry Central High School parking lot to encourage safe driving over the July 4 weekend. Participants included city, county and state law enforcement agencies, MADD, Fish and Wildlife, fire departments, Kentucky Vehicle Enforcement, and emergency medical services.   • June - Carr Creek UNITE Club held a Kick Off To Testing in May before school adjourned for the summer. To view photos click here.

  • Wednesday, May 30 - Knott County Drug Court held its eighth graduation ceremony for three participants in the third floor Circuit Courtroom of the Knott Judicial Center.

  • Saturday, May 19 - The Knott and Magoffin Drug Court held a family day out program at Carr Fork Lake. Events included basketball, fishing, horseshoes and food.

  • Friday, May 18 - Former University of Kentucky basketball star Jeff Sheppard participated in the Carr Creek Elementary School health fair.

  • Saturday, May 12 - Dad's Day Out. The Knott Drug Abuse Council and Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife Resources held a free drug-free event featuring fishing, boat rides, archery and other outdoor games, food and prizes at the Pin Oak Shelter on Carr Creek Lake at Litt Carr.   • July - KDAC members completed the third week of the CADCA's National Coalition Academy. For photos click here.

  • Monday, April 2 - Former University of Kentucky basketball great Jeff Sheppard presented an anti-drug program at Cabin Creek Childrens Center.

  • Thursday, March 1 - Cordia High School UNITE Club hosts a band concert featuring Christian rock and high school bands. More than 160 youth from high schools in several counties attended. Bands included Gwen Stacy, Black Coat Cabaret, A Scandal to Remember, ASTR, Chasing Victory and The Showdown. To view pictures click here.

  • Wednesday, January 31 - Cordia High School's Lions UNITE Club created paper chains to indicate that their school is "only as strong as our weakest link" against drugs. To view pictures click here.

  • Wednesday, January 24 - An adult Drug Court graduation ceremony was conducted for two Knott County participants and one Magoffin County participantat the Knott County Judicial Center.

  • Thursday, October 19 - A meth awarenss and drug education program was presented at the Alice Lloyd College Auditorium as part of the Drug and Alcohol Week activities on campus. For information call Janet Johnson at 606-368-6136.

  • Thursday, October 19 - A forum to discuss drugs and treatment was held for seniors at Knott County Central High School auditorium.

  • Tuesday, October 17 - Knott/Magoffin Drug Court Judge Kim Childers conducted graduation ceremonies for five participants - one from Magoffin County and four from Knott County - at the Knott Judicial Center. Guest speakers included Will T. Scott, deputy chief justice of the Kentucky Supreme Court, and Paul Hays, deputy law enforcement director for UNITE. There have been 22 graduates from this Drug Court, and five participants have given birth to drug-free babies.

  • Friday, August 4 - Knott Adult Circuit Drug Court graduates 7 participants.

  • Thursday, May 25 – Knott/Magoffin Drug Court participants release balloons as part of Drug Court Month.

  • Tuesday, May 23 – Knott/Magoffin Drug Court graduation ceremony, noon. For information call Glenda Shrum at 606-785-1558.

  • Wednesday, May 3 – Jeff Sheppard conducts anti-drug programs at Knott County Central High School and Beaver Creek Elementary School.

  • Tuesday, May 2 – UNITE coalition networking reception at the Carriage House in the Ramada Inn, Paintsville, for the Big Sandy coalitions. One of five regional receptions.

  • April - A collaboration between KDAC and other community organizations resulted in an Easter egg hunt that affected approximately 300 people.

  • Tuesday, March 28 – A Town Hall meeting to address underage drinking was held in the Knott County Central High School auditorium.

  • Friday, March 24 – Knott Central Drug Coalition / KDAC activities committee held an open gym at the high school.
