2007 Activities
Sunday, November 4 - A Girl Scout community day program titled "In the Zone/Living Drug-Free" was held. Approximately 130 family members, including 87 Girl Scouts ages 5-17 from Johnson, Floyd and Martin counties participated. They were able to enjoy good, wholesome fun Girl Scout activities while learning about the dangers of drugs and discovering healthy living alternatives. Learning booths were provided by the Johnson County Sheriff's Office, Kentucky Fish & Wildlife, Mountain Comprehensive Care, and the Drug Testing Center of the Bluegrass. The group was entertained by a professional band and an illusionist who incorporated a healthy lifestyle into his act.
Monday, October 22 - Former University of Kentucky basketball star Jeff Sheppard give anti-drug presentations to students at Johnson Central High and Paintsville High.
Friday, September 28 - A Mini Apple Run was held by fifth- and sixth-grade students in the Paintsville Elementary UNITE Club and members of the Paintsville Anti-Drug Swim Team to show support for UNITE. The students raised $1,038 which was donated to the UNITE Foundation to "give back" for the support they have received. Participating in the mini-apple day run were 130 students and 20 teachers, as well as Paintsville Mayor Bob Porter, Johnson County Fiscal Court member Cathy Adams, Swim Team Coach Bernie Carroll, Paintsville Elementary Principal Teresa Petot, members of the Paintsville Police Department, and local business representatives. Gift certificates were provided by Wal-Mart and Sonic.
Friday, August 3 - Johnson County UNITE hosted a "Dive Against Drugs" back-to-school bash at the Paintsville pool. Free food, live music and prizes were given away.
Friday, June 29 - Approximately 40 people attended the Johnson County UNITE's Bowl Over Drugs event held at the Paintsville Bowling Alley. To view pictures click here.
Saturday, April 21 - Hooked on Fishing, Not on Drugs (HOFNOD) Buddy Bass Fishing Tournament at Paintsville Lake. For details and results click here.

Tuesday, April 17 - UNITE participated in a young parents program at the Ramada Inn in Paintsville.
Thursday, April 5 - A free community forum to discuss issues regarding drugs in Johnson County was conducted at Paintsville Elementary School. Speakers included Johnson County Sheriff Bill Witten, Johnson County Coroner J.R. Frisby, Paintsville Police Chief Lowell Ward, officials from Operation UNITE and others. Educational tables were set up around the gym with materials and handouts for those attending.
Thursday, March 1 - A drug awareness forum scheduled for today was rescheduled to April 5.

Wednesday, September 6 - Substance Abuse and Prevention Educational Community Forum at Porter Elementary School Library.

Monday, July 10 - West Van Lear Neighbors UNITED will hold a neighborhood cleanup in conjunction with PRIDE and the West Van Lear Fire Department.

Tuesday, June 20 - "How safe are your premises?" A special presentation on home security was given at the West Van Lear Community Center by the West Van Lear Neighbors UNITED in cooperation with Maggard's Security. Belinda Maggard and other staff members discussed security issues and demonstrated the various components of security systems. Door prizes were given.
Thursday, June 15 - Court Watch volunteer training at the Paintsville Recreation Center.

Tuesday, May 30 - Initial planning committee meeting for a combined Floyd, Johnson and Pike UNITE Coalition bass fishing tournament fundraiser at UNITE's Prestonsburg office.
Tuesday, May 23 Neighbors UNITED meeting at the West Van Lear Community Center.
Saturday, May 20 Approximately 600 people attended Mega Jam 06 at the Mountain Arts Center in Prestonsburg. The event featured many area groups during the afternoon.
