  • Monday, March 10 - A presentation on the UNITE Voucher Program and Casey's Law was given to members of the Democratic Women's Club at Jenny Wiley State Park. For information contact Ann Latta at 606-886-6100.

  • Tuesday, February 26 - Hope in the Mountains, a 10-bed, long-term residential treatment center for women, will hold an open house from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.

  • Thursday, November 15 - The Floyd County Adult Drug Court held a graduation ceremony for two participants.

  • Friday, October 26 - Prestonsburg High School hosted Shelby Valley High School in the Floyd County UNITE Bowl football game, at the Prestonsburg High football field. This anti-drug event included informaton about the drug problems in the county and what people can do to help. Special announcements were broadcast throughout the game, and a special trophy presentation was held following the contest.

  • Monday, August 13 - A training on "Intervention with Substance Abusing Adolescents" was presented at Allen Baptist Church on U.S. 23 near Prestonsburg by Mike Vance. CEUs and credits for licensure were offered.

  • Saturday, August 4 - The coalition participated in a back-to-school event for Prestonsburg High School. Event included four live bands, roast pigs with all the trimmings and more.

  • Monday, May 21 - The Floyd County Drug Court held graduation ceremonies for three participants at the Floyd County Justice Center.

  • Friday, May 11 - Floyd County Drug Court held a picnic with family members at Jenny Wiley State Park.

  • Monday, April 16 - A Drug Endangered Children (DEC) training was held for about 40 people at the Big Sandy Area Development District. The training provided details on how to deal with issues related to children who come from homes where drugs are present.

  • Wednesday, April 11 - A presentation on the process of narcotics investigations was held for a criminal justice class at Prestonsburg Community College.

  • Thursday, April 5 - "Sound Advice" television program of Floyd County UNITE and UNITE Pike aired from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. on WPRG Channel 5 in Harold through a partnership with Gearheart Communications.

  • Tuesday, April 3 - Presentations on methamphetamine and Neighbors UNITED were given to adults and parents during a Protection and Permanency meeting.

  • Saturday-Sunday, March 24-25 - First RAGE Against Drugs Softball Tournament sponsored in part by the Floyd County UNITE Coalition.

  • Monday, March 12 - A presentation regarding the Kentucky All-Schedule Prescription Electronic Reporting (KASPER) system was held at Allen Baptist Church.

  • Monday, February 19 - A presentation about Operation UNITE was given to several family groups at the Prestonsburg Bowling Alley.

  • Monday, November 13 - Floyd County Adult Circuit Drug Court graduation ceremony for two participants at the Floyd County Justice Center. Coalition sponsored a reception and gave each graduate a planner.

  • Monday, November 13 - A community meeting was held at the Wheelwright Freewill Baptist Church at Bypro.

  • Monday, November 6 - Dr. Bill Tom Fannin and Nell Johnson of the Pikeville Medical Center Addiction Services presented an hour-long program at Allen Baptist Church on youth and adult services they use and the future of addiction services at the medical center.

  • Thursday, November 2 - Sound Advice television broadcast on WPRG Channel 5 featured Scott Walker, director for addiction services at Mountain Comprehensive Care Center serving the Big Sandy region.

  • Monday, October 16 - Anti-drug rallies with former University of Kentucky basketball star Jeff Sheppard were conducted at The David School, Adams Middle School, and Allen Elementary School.

  • Friday, September 29 - Hooked On Fishing-Not On Drugs fishing tournament cookout and meeting at Yatesville Marina.

  • Friday-Saturday, July 21-22 – Third annual July Jam in Pikeville. Free food, entertainment and prizes. Prizes include two four-year scholarships to Georgetown College. Saturday will feature the group Seventh Day Slumber. Friday night music will be in the city park. Saturday’s activities will take place in the new Eastern Kentucky Expo Center.   • Wednesday, June 14 - Bass Fishing Tournament planning meeting for the Floyd, Johnson and Pike UNITE coalitions at the UNITE office in Prestonsburg. For information contact Alisha Baldridge at 606-889-0422 or e-mail at abaldridge@centertech.com.

  • Tuesday, May 30 - Initial planning committee meeting for a combined Floyd, Johnson and Pike UNITE Coalition bass fishing tournament fundraiser at UNITE's Prestonsburg office.

  • Saturday, May 27 – The Floyd District Drug Court held a candle lighting service on the courthouse steps to symbolize their hope and support for the recovery of participants.

  • Saturday, May 20 – Approximately 600 people attended Mega Jam ’06 at the Mountain Arts Center in Prestonsburg. The event featured many area groups during the afternoon.   • Tuesday, May 2 – UNITE coalition networking reception at the Carriage House in the Ramada Inn, Paintsville, for the Big Sandy coalitions. One of five regional receptions.

  • Monday, May 1 – Floyd Count District Drug Court held its first graduation ceremony at the Justice Center.

  • Tuesday, March 28 – A training on meth residue for road personnel and PRIDE groups was conducted at the old Floyd County Courthouse.

  • Monday-Wednesday, March 20-22 – Six team members (David Baldridge, Mike Vance, Brandi Adkins, Jamie Ward-Minix, Mary Martin and Teresa Younce) participated in the Substance Abuse in Appalachia Conference at East Tennessee State University. The team developed a plan emphasizing the need to address the large numbers of prospective coal mining employees unable to clear pre-employment drug screening. The team was awarded $3,000 in Appalachian Regional Commission money to carry forward their project. To view a picture click here.
