UNITE Activities
The Floyd, Johnson and Pike UNITE coalitions held a bass fishing tournament on September 30, 2006, to raise funding for youth programs and promote awareness of their coalitions. For pictures click here.
On July 6, 2006, UNITE Pike and the Floyd County UNITE Coalition began a partnership with Gearheart Communications to air informational programs on public access television stations. The live broadcast -- called "Sound Advice: The UNITE Hour" -- is shown on WPRG Channel 5 in Harold from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. and continues on the first Thursday of each month. A call-in question and answer session is featured along with special monthly guests. The program is made available to other cable TV providers in the two counties that are not covered by Inner Mountain Cable.
Coalition members are partnering with the UNITE Pike Coalition for the July Jam Festival in Pikeville July 21-22. For details click here.
Floyd County offers an Addictions (Christian 12-step) Lifeline program at Allen Baptist Church.
Currently one Floyd County school has a registered UNITE Club – Betsy Layne High.

Saturday-Sunday, March 29-30 - The second "Rage Against Drugs" softball tournament was held at the Sports Park in Prestonsburg. Twelve teams participated in this year's event, with more than $500 raised for the Floyd County UNITE Coalition.

Monday, March 10 - A presentation on the UNITE Voucher Program and Casey's Law was given to members of the Democratic Women's Club at Jenny Wiley State Park. For information contact Ann Latta at 606-886-6100.
Tuesday, February 26 - Hope in the Mountains, a 10-bed, long-term residential treatment center for women, will hold an open house from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.

Friday, October 26 - Prestonsburg High School hosted Shelby Valley High School in the Floyd County UNITE Bowl football game, at the Prestonsburg High football field. This anti-drug event included informaton about the drug problems in the county and what people can do to help. Special announcements were broadcast throughout the game, and a special trophy presentation was held following the contest.
