May 2008 - Drug Court Month
  • Monday-Friday, May 5-9
    A project to increase student awareness about the hazards of drinking and the trail of abuse that could lead to drug addiction will be presented during this week in Pulaski County. For details contact Sandi Dick at 606-423-9631.

  • Tuesday, May 6
    Knox County District Drug Court will hold a graduation ceremony, 6 p.m. at the Knox County District Courthouse in Barbourville. For information contact Patricia Sears at 606-545-5423.

  • Friday-Saturday, May 9-10
    Pulaski County High School will present "Under the Influence" by Ron Parker, 7 p.m. each night at the school auditorium. Admission is $6 for adults, $5 for students. Due to the intensity of the subject matter children 10 and under will not be admitted.

    Letcher County will hold its first Hooked On Fishing-Not On Drugs youth fishing and mentoring program with approximately 15 people from the Cowan Community Center starting at 10 a.m. at the shelter at the dam site of Fishpond Lake.     The Knott Drug Abuse Council will hold a "Dad's Day Out" program at Carr Creek Lake (the Pin Oak Shelter just past Carr Creek Elementary) from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. This free event will include fishing, food, door prizes and boat rides.     Knox County will hold a Hooked On Fishing-Not On Drugs® program will be held from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Campbell Training Field pond in Artemus. For information call 606-546-9515.

    A "Drug-Free Workplace" training will be given to employees of the Eagle #20 Mine at the Booth Energy Training Complex in Martin County. This training was rescheduled from May 3. For information contact Eddie Slone at 606-298-5958.

    Teens UNITE of Wayne County will conduct "Gifts For Grandma" from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. each day. Students have identified several grandparents who are caring for their grandchildren due to the parents being absent from the homes and will deliver flowers to them for Mother's Day.     A public awareness program about methamphetamine will be presented by the Corbin Area UNITE Group, 7 p.m., at the Corbin Parkway Church, 510 East Cumberland Gap Parkway. The program will include signs of a meth lab, symptoms of a meth user and what to do if you encounter a meth lab.
