Schedule of Events

9 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. -- Registration on the lawn in front of the Gatliff Administration Building.

9:30 a.m. to 9:45 a.m.-- Opening session in the Gatliff Administration Building Chapel.

10 a.m. to 11 a.m. -- Coalition and Youth workshop sessions (select one):

• "Fundraising 101" (McGaw Music Building Recital Hall) -- An overview of strategies for raising funds (special events, direct mail, personal solicitation and grant requests). Understanding each of these strategies will help you develop a diversified funding base to support your mission and engage more friends as donors. Presenter: Danielle Clore, founding director of the University of Kentucky Nonprofit Leadership Initiative.

• "Dealing Positively with Resistance" (Gatliff Administration Building Chapel) -- There are six reasons people resist change, whether that be cultural change, volunteering vs staying at home, or getting off drugs. Receive the tools you need to deal with resistance in your community. Presenter: Bob Ash, founder of Life Lessons.

• "Kentucky All Schedule Prescription Electronic Reporting (KASPER): 2003-2005 Trend Analysis of Controlled Substances" (Grace Crum Rollins Fine Arts Center Kohn Theatre) -- This session will describe how KASPER works, who may be authorized to request KASPER reports, and how the reports may be used. In addition, the session will explain how KASPER data is analyzed. Come hear how you have affected change in Eastern Kentucky with the latest trend report. Presenters: Neal Rosenblatt, project manager/business analyst with the Commonwealth of Kentucky, and Dave Salengs, RPh, Cabinet for Health and Family Services branch manager for the Drug Enforcement and Professional Practices Branch, Division of Fraud, Waste and Abuse/Identification and Prevention, Office of the Inspector General.

• "Flash Judgments" (First Baptist Church Sanctuary) -- Youth session for high school students. Participants will learn: 1) how our first look at others often leaves lasting impressions; 2) how quickly we put labels on others; 3) how our actions show others how we feel about them; 4) how labels affect the way we get along with others; and 5) how getting to really know people helps us set aside labels so we can work to appreciate each other. Presenter: Jennifer Watson, youth development training coordinator for Kentucky Child Now!

• Greg Farmer (Williamsburg Tourism and Conference Center) -- An anti-drug magic show presentation for elementary and middle school students.

11:15 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. -- Luncheon in the O. Wayne Rollins Athletic Center. Special guest speaker Fifth District Congressman Harold "Hal" Rogers.

12:30 p.m. to 2 p.m. -- Awards Ceremony. Keynote address -- "Corporate Citizenship & Community Involvement" -- by Tom Zawacki, general manager of general administration for Toyota Motor Manufacturing.

Excellence Awards

Awards will recognize individuals and coalitions who have set exemplary standards to promote and grow the UNITE effort.

Coalitions and individuals will nominate recipients for six awards: 1) UNITE Club of the Year (high school); 2) UNITE Club of the Year (middle school); 3) UNITE Club of the Year (elementary school); 4) Recruiter of the Year; 5) Community Leader of the Year; and 6) Mentor of the Year. Other awards to be presented include: 1) Substance Abuse Counselor of the Year; 2) Innovative Project of the Year; 3) Community Impact Project of the Year; 4) UNITE Appreciation Award; 5) Cornerstone Award.
