"It takes a leader to know a leader, grow a leader, and show a leader" - John Maxwell in Developing The Leaders Around You
The theme for this first-time summit is "Emerging Leaders: Believe, Encourage, Share, Trust." The intent is to establish ongoing leadership opportunities for the youth in this region through the development of youth leadership coalitions.
The summit will target youth in grades 6-11. It is an offshoot of work begun in the fall of 2006 during Dr. John Maxwell's visit to the region.
Follow-up activities would occur in late summer or early fall and include a "train the trainer" session in July to teach other students effective study skills in preparation for a Fall Regional Leadership Meeting leading up to another Leadership Summit in 2008.
Participants will attend monthly meetings within their school and complete a community service project.
KVEC districts include: Breathitt, Clay, Floyd, Harlan, Knott, Lee, Leslie, Letcher, Magoffin, Mason, Owsley, Perry, Rowan, Wolfe, Hazard Independent, Jackson Independent, Jenkins Independent, Pikeville Independent and Paintsville Independent.
