The Kids Fishing Derby in Wayne County, now in its third year, offers 3 fishing classes for kids age 1-5, 6-10 and 11-15. Rick Kempton, the event coordinator, gathers considerable support from area organizations and businesses as well as individuals.

It is expected there will be over 200 youth participating this year after a growth from 116 the first year to 176 the second year. Over 300 parents/guardians attended the event in 2006 in addition to 40+ volunteers.

Each child is awarded a door prize in addition to largest fish and most fish caught.

Nick Cooley makes the entire thing possible by providing the wonderful facility at Cave Lake Park on the right at the beginning of the second four-lane passing zone on KY 90 coming from Somerset. Come and join in the fun!
