• Tuesday, June 19 - Jackson County High School in McKee. Attended by 234 participants from 7 counties (Jackson, Clay, Fayette, Lee, Madison, Laurel and Boone), 2 other states (Florida and Texas) and 1 other country (Mexico). Ball goal winners were David Frymyer and Brittany Belt.
• Thursday, June 21 - Cumberland High School in Harlan County. Attended by 189 participants from 4 counties (Harlan, Letcher, Laurel and Kenton) and 6 other states (Indiana, Ohio, Georgia, Virginia, Tennessee and Florida).
• Thursday, June 28 - Menifee County High School in Frenchburg. Attended by 130 participants from 12 counties (Menifee, Powell, Jefferson, Wolfe, Garrard, Morgan, Woodford, Montgomery, Rowan, Clark, Jackson and Bath) and 1 other state (Tennessee). Ball goal winners were Caleb Meeks of Menifee County and Luke Debord of Knoxville, Tennessee.
• Thursday, July 5 - Old Knott County High School gym at Hindman in Knott County. Attended by 60 participants from 4 counties (Knott, Perry, Letcher and Floyd). Ball goal winners were Joseph Pridemore and Katie Williams, both of Knott County.
• Thursday, July 12 - Lawrence County High School in Louisa. Attended by 118 participants from 3 counties (Lawrence, Johnson and Martin) and 3 states (Ohio, West Virginia and Wisconsin). Ball goal winners were Tasha Williamson of Fallsburg and Morgan O'Brian of Louisa.
• Thursday, July 19 - East Ridge High School at Elkhorn City in Pike County. Attended by 210 participants from 3 counties (Pike, Floyd and Laurel) and West Virginia. Ball goal winners were Kelsie Fuller of Feds Creek and Samuel Todd Conley of Elkhorn City. |

Jeff Sheppard, a highly acclaimed former basketball player at the University of Kentucky, will conduct seven free one-day regional basketball camps this summer in the Fifth Congressional District. The Shoot Hoops Not Drugs Tour will teach school-age youth fundamental basketball skills while emphasizing the importance for them to stay drug-free.
Pre-registration is NOT required.
Participants should wear comfortable shirt, shorts and closed-toe sneakers.
SouthEast Telephone will be providing free hotdogs and water at each of the camps.
Wal*Mart Corporation has donated portable basketball goals. Two goals will be given away at the conclusion of each camp.
Participants will receive a free event T-shirt and Shoot Hoops Not Drugs basketball.
Last year's basketball camps had 878 participants from 35 Kentucky counties and 5 states and involved 155 volunteers. For photos from the 2006 camps click here.
