    A community meeting for all Bell County citizens to take action against drugs has been POSTPONED. A new date will be announced.

    An anti-drug march and rally will be held for all Leslie County residents to become part of the solution and take back their communities from drugs. March begins at 2 p.m. from the new parking structure on Maple Street in downtown Hyden and will conclude with a rally in front of the Leslie County Courthouse.

    "Plant the Promise to be Drug Free" event on the courthouse square in Barbourville, 9 a.m. In recognition of Red Ribbon Week, all schools, businesses, civic groups, families and youth are invited to plant a red tulip to symbolize home and serve as a reminder to youth to stay away from drugs. Bulbs will bloom in April during National Alcohol Awareness Month.

    Pine Knot Primary's Bear Cubs UNITE Club and Family Resource Center will hold a free community drug awareness event druring the Red Maple Festival, 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Pine Knot Primary School.   • Sunday-Saturday, October 21-27
    "Paint Morgan County Red Against Drugs." Local businesses, civic groups, churches, law enforcement and government officials will be providing different activities with the schools as part of National Red Ribbon Week. The whole county is asked to "Plant the Promise" by planting tulips or putting red ribbons on all mailboxes or homes.

  • Monday, October 22
    A free methamphetamine awareness program will be conducted at 5 p.m. at the Hyden City Hall. This program provides an overview to this highly addictive and very deadly drug. Participants will learn what signs to look for to identify potential meth labs and users, and a description of the Meth Check program piloted by UNITE for the state.

    Operation UNITE will conduct a program to grandparents raising grandchildren, 1 p.m. at the Owsley County Senior Citizens Center in Booneville.     Prestonsburg High School will host Shelby Valley High School in the Floyd County UNITE Bowl football game, 7:30 p.m. at the Prestonsburg High football field, 825 Blackcat Blvd. This anti-drug event will include informaton about the drug problems in the county and what people can do to help. Special announcements will be broadcast throughout the game, and a special trophy presentation will be held following the contest.     The second year of Celebrate Recovery in Wayne County begins with a large group training and workshop, 6:30 p.m. at the ASPIRE Center (KY 90 and KY 1275 behind Krogers). Open Share groups and Step Studies for people with hurts, habits and hangups will be held. The groups will continue each Thursday evening.

    A free How To Drug-Proof Your Kids class will be offered free to parents and care-givers starting at 7 p.m. at the Owsley County Action Place in Booneville. This three-part class, presented by Linda Cox, will continue on Thursday, November 8 and Wednesday, November 14. You must attend all sessions to complete this education, prevention and intervention based program developed by Dr. James Dobson's Focus on the Family organization.
